I mean literally, I am a night nurse, and I hiss at sunlight sometimes (just kidding…kinda…). But a lot of my time is spent in darkened rooms, including my own room at home. I have curtains that are the cheap version of blackout curtains. They still allow a little light in through the sides, but other then that, they keep the room pretty dark.
Today, I am thankful for opening the blinds.
I realize that nice sunny days are beginning to come to an end here soon, and this afternoon when I woke up, I could tell by the light peaking through the cracks of my curtains, that today was one of those days. I decided it was time to let a little light in for a change. And as my room was filled with the light I was reminded of this verse:
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruitof the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord." -Ephesians 5:8-10
So I may "live" in the dark, but I am not of the dark. We are called to be "light in the Lord" and to be children of the light. So I am thankful for the bright light of sunshine that filled my room this afternoon, but I am even more thankful that my God has pulled me out of the darkness and charged me to be a child for his light that shines throughout the world.
So open the blinds; let in the light.
